THE EVOLUTION OF DUSTY STAR FORMATION AND STELLAR MASS ASSEMBLY IN CLUSTERS: RESULTS FROM THE IRAC 3.6, 4.5, 5.8, AND 8.0 m CLUSTER LUMINOSITY FUNCTIONS

چکیده
We present a catalog of 99 candidate clusters and groups of galaxies in the redshift range 0:1 < zphot < 1:3 discovered in the Spitzer FLS. The clusters are selected by their Rc 3:6 m galaxy color-magnitude relation using the cluster red-sequence algorithm. Using this cluster sample, we compute the 3.6, 4.5, 5.8, and 8:0 m cluster LFs. Similar to previous studies, we find that for the bands that trace stellar mass at these redshifts (3.6 and 4:5 m) the evolution in M is consistent with a passively evolving population of galaxies with a high formation redshift (zf > 1:5). Using the 3:6 m LF as a proxy for stellar luminosity, we remove this component from the MIR (5.8 and 8:0 m) cluster LFs and measure the LF of dusty star formation/AGNs in clusters. We find that at z < 0:4 the bright end of the cluster 8:0 m LF is well described by a composite population of quiescent galaxies and regular starforming galaxies with a mix consistent with typical cluster blue fractions; however, at z > 0:4, an additional population of dusty starburst galaxies is required to properly model the 8:0 m LFs. Comparison to field studies at similar redshifts shows a strong differential evolution in the field and cluster 8:0 m LFs with redshift. At z 0:65 8:0 mYdetected galaxies are more abundant in clusters compared to the field, but thereafter the number of 8:0 m sources in clusters declines with decreasing redshift, and by z 0:15, clusters are underdense relative to the field by a factor of 5. The rapid differential evolution between the cluster and field LFs is qualitatively consistent with recent field galaxy studies that show that the star formation rates of galaxies in high-density environments are larger than those in low-density environments at higher redshift. A detailed study of the L 1641 N star formation region ? , ? ? , ? ? ?
Aims. We search for young stellar objects (YSOs) in the L1641N cluster and characterize the star formation activity through determination of the age distribution, mass function, spatial distribution, and the star formation history. Methods. Multi-wavelength broad band photometry both from space and the ground are used to look for IR excess in order to separate field stars from YSOs and to sampl...
متن کاملInfrared Array Camera (irac) Colors of Young Stellar Objects
We compare the infrared colors predicted by theoretical models of protostellar envelopes and protoplanetary disks with initial observations of young stellar objects made with the Infrared Array Camera ( IRAC) on the Spitzer Space Telescope. Disk and envelope models characterized by infall and/or accretion rates found in previous studies can quantitatively account for the range of IRAC colors fo...

We present four MIPS (24 m) and two IRAC (3.6, 4.5, 5.8, and 8.0 m) Spitzer Space Telescope observations of the newly discovered tremendous outburst amplitude dwarf nova (TOAD) Var Her 04 during decline from superoutburst. The four MIPS observations span 271 days, and the two IRAC observations span 211 days. Along the line of sight to Var Her 04, there is a foreground M star within 100 of the v...
متن کاملSpatial Distribution of Warm Dust in Early - Type Galaxies
Images taken with the IRAC instrument on the Spitzer Space Telescope show that the spatial distribution of warm dust emission in lenticular galaxies is often organized into dynamically-stable structures strongly resembling spiral arms. These galaxies have bulge-to-disk-ratios and colors for their stellar content appropriate for their morphological classification. Two of the three galaxies with ...

We present new results for the molecular gas, dust emission, and the ionized gas in J1023+1952, an H iYrich intergalactic star-forming tidal dwarf galaxy candidate. It is located at the projected intersection of two faint stellar tidal streams wrapped around the interacting pair of galaxies NGC 3227/6 (Arp 94). Using the IRAM 30m telescope, emission from CO(1Y0) and CO(2Y1) was detected across ...
